Followers Decreasing

Why my Instagram followers are decreasing automatically day by day?

Growth on social media can be a really finicky thing these days. One day you can gain 100 new followers and the next you can lose around 250.

Sometimes you might ask, why am I losing followers on Instagram?

That’s why it’s important to make a difference between growth and sustainable growth.

While it’s desirable to grow the number of followers, you should never resort to buying them from a third party service. That would be only a short term solution for a long term goal.

The key to achieving your social media goals is to strive for that sustainability. Remember, Instagram is more than just numbers. Its whole premise is that you can build your own online community. All around you or your brand and name!

Losing followers is, in a nutshell, a bad thing. But you already knew that. What’s even worse is losing followers that have been with you for a long time.

“Why do I keep losing Instagram followers”? “Why are my Instagram followers dropping”?

Those are the dedicated people that we want to keep around, want to keep them engaging with us and our content and advocating for our brand.

Here are a few of the most common reasons why those important numbers keep dropping and what you can do to prevent that. This is why you’re randomly losing followers on Instagram:

Lack of Content – Organize Your Posting

This right here is a no brainer. You can’t really expect your audience to always stick around. Especially if you upload one post a month.

Frequent uploads are what lets your followers know that you are still there. And more importantly, that you still care! It’s 2020 and in the past decade, we have seen a lot of startups go under for seemingly no reason.

Now, we’re not saying that your business will fail if you don’t post on Instagram.

What we are trying to say is that frequent posting gives your page, and most importantly your business, credibility in a time of great uncertainty.

The best method of remedying this issue is by coming up with a social media calendar. It’s a simple tool that gets the job done. Prevents any loose ends and lost followers.

You can predefine your posting days with the help of Instagram’s insights option. It shows you what days your followers are most active and when the best time to post really is.

Too Much Content – How Not to Spam

That’s right! There is such a thing as too much content. It’s what we in the marketing industry refer to as content oversaturation. This includes posting 3+ times a day and spamming your stories until the white lines at the top resemble grains of rice.

People already like your brand. That doesn’t mean that they have to see you every time they open their IG app. This is a perfect time for you to focus on quality instead of quantity.

Here you can just use that ever-so-helpful social media calendar that we talked about above. Entertain your followers, don’t annoy them.

Whether it’s too many posts or not enough, balance is important. Nothing works better than a little trial and error. Feel free to test what style of posting works best for you.

It can range between one post a week to a post a day with 3 to 5 stories that are somehow related to the post. You always have the amazing Instagram Insights option to check how much traffic your post/stories are getting.

Focusing On Quantity Over Quality – More Is Not Merrier

Here is something we touched on a bit in reason #2. Make sure that you take your time while creating content for your Instagram profile.

It’s better to push back a release than to release an unfinished and unsatisfactory product.

The same goes for posting on your social media. Don’t be afraid to delay content if it’s not ready. Whether it’s for a few hours or maybe even a couple of days. Trust me, your followers will be more than happy that you chose that. Quality over anything!

“Why do I lose Instagram followers?” You didn’t choose quality first!

You can also get a second opinion for someone who is close to you, either personally or in the industry. Ask them what they like or don’t like about your posts. A fresh perspective is always helpful and can be exactly what you need.

To completely eliminate the possibility of your deadline not being met, focus on creating your content at least one week in advance. That way you can assure that you always stay on schedule.

Lack of Engagement – Communicate, Communicate and Communicate

This is more on the side of nuance and personal preference regarding your followers. A brand that engages with its audience is a brand that builds loyalty.

It doesn’t matter if it’s just a simple heart emoji in the comments or a Direct Message, engagement is key. If a brand’s follower base is being ignored, they will be less likely to stick around.

People really like to see that back and forth between the profile that they are following and the followers in question.

Larger brands like Nike can get away with this simply because of their size. And the reputation, of course! That should not be your end goal. Engage with your followers and they will in turn engage more with you.

Some things you can do to engage your followers are:

  • Organize polls and quizzes on your stories
  • Ask them questions publicly regarding your brand
  • Host prize giveaways where they can win a discount on your product/service

Content Is Too Diverse – Focus on Your Niche

Let’s say that you are an artist that uses their page to promote their webcomic. People will follow you because they connect and like your content!

Imagine what would happen If you suddenly change up the plan? You risk losing Instagram followers who were there for your art from the beginning.

Diversity in and of itself is not at all a bad thing. You just have to find a balance between satisfying the audience and getting the attention of the newbies. It’s all balance!

Fake Followers

Bots – Get To Know Them Better

It’s safe to say that fake or illegitimate accounts have been plaguing Instagram since its inception. These are usually profiles that are mostly inactive and are used to boost one’s follower count a great deal in a short period of time.

As time goes by and technology improves at an exponential rate. More people redeveloping automated systems that have the sole purpose of accumulating a large number of followers by following other profiles.

These profiles can then be sold for profit and negatively affect Instagram’s delicate ecosystem. Instagram has actively been battling these automated systems, or bots, for a while now and every single day thousands of profiles like that are deleted.

There really is no way that you can avoid this. It’s something that just happens and goes away on its own.

Buying Fake Followers – Big Red Flag

On the other hand, we have a practice that is more disruptive for the growth of your business.

It can seem, at first, like a good alternative to a long and grueling process of organic growth. If you have around $1.000 just lying around you might be tempted to get those 5-10 thousand followers within days.

“It’s too good to be true”. Well, it kind of is.

These accounts have been created for one thing and one thing only; to artificially inflate your numbers. And they come packaged with a myriad of risks. In the long run, this is not an investment that you would want to take part in.

On top of that, this practice could seriously damage your business. Especially if you’re looking for clients on Instagram

Competition – Swimming With The Sharks

We are not alone! It doesn’t matter the industry, there is always someone trying to do something better than you. And Instagram is a real digital shark tank.

Everyone is trying to get a piece of that pie and establish themselves as the best in the business. Everyone is trying to become an influencer, so it seems.

Keep tabs on your competitors. See what they’re doing right and try to implement it into your social media. More importantly, keep an eye on their shortcomings.

It’s always better to learn from someone else’s mistakes rather than making them on your own.

That pretty much covers some of the most common reasons that are responsible for the decline of followers that a profile might experience.

It will take some work and some time for the plants to bear this metaphorical fruit. But it will always be a good investment in the long run. And in the meantime, subscribe to FlockSocial to get more organic followers…We are the “quality over anything” type you’ve been looking for.
